Commuting to work, under rated or over rated?
Are you fed up spending hours and hours each week commuting to and from work, on the overcrowded tube, a cold bus or simply stuck in your car listening to the traffic news on the radio tell you how roads are currently delayed?
This is where we at Log Office can help.
Firstly, let’s look at the pros and cons of commuting:
Pros
You get to see the world and the same route day in, day out while catching up on that podcast/book you could also be doing in the comfort of your own home.
You learn new ways to get into work quicker.
Getting to try out that new umbrella you rarely get to use when it’s raining.
Getting public transport at the same time everyday improves your time management.
Commuting home from work can make you look forward to your dinner even more than usual.
Okay, we admit there are not a lot of pros!
Cons
Commuting costs the typical commuter £37,399 over a lifetime, according to Lloyds Bank.
The average daily commute in Britain took 58.4 minutes in 2019.
Workers in the UK spend more than 10 days (251 hours) travelling to and from work every year, at a typical annual cost of £795.72
Environmental; All of the petrol and diesel pollution from the tens of thousands of vehicles on our roads are accelerating global warming and climate change, not good.
Health; Many studies have shown that commuters that drive are more prone to joint disease and users of public transport experience higher rates of infection, again, not good.
Stress; Either stuck in traffic jams, wondering if you’ll get in on time or home to bring the kids to swimming, or packed like sardines on a bus or train wondering if it’s really worth it. Stress is not good for your health.
Time; You have less of it, at the expense of your children, partners, hobbies, social life etc.
At Log Office, we specialise in building the highest quality LogOffice’s and Log Cabins as high specification yet affordable work or play room's without needing any planning permission. Log Cabins and working from home is becoming more and more popular in the UK pre Covid-19 and with the majority of the population trialling it out where they can, experts believe working from home may become the new norm for staff at least one day per week where possible.
Either looking to ‘beat’ the traffic in the morning time or late in the afternoon are distractions we could really do without and now might be the time to discuss with your manager or boss the idea of working from home.
Thankfully in this day and age, we have the world at our fingers with technology allowing us to video call someone instantly living in Australia or dial into a call with somebody in Vancouver. Some benefits to help convince your manager include -
You won’t be arriving exhausted and stressed; instead you’ll be rested and ready to get a good day’s work in.
You will have the Log Cabin office space suited to your strengths to ensure you will be working at full productivity with no distractions.
Phonecalls will be easier in a calm, quiet environment.
Ask for a trial period, say one day a week for a month, to see how it goes. You’ll be able to show how much more productive you can be as well as lowering stress and tiredness.
As you are saving money on commuting, you won’t be requesting a pay rise anytime soon (they will love this!)
